![]() A federal judge in Oregon has declared "secular humanism" a religion that should be afforded equal protection rights under the Establishment Clause of the U.S. Constitution ("Federal Court Rules," Christian News Network, Nov. 4, 2014). The ruling supports the right of atheist Jason Holden to form a study group on humanism in a federal prison. The American Humanist Society co-filed the case with the prisoner. The logical result of this decision should be that humanism will not be allowed to be taught or promoted in public schools, but don't hold your breathe waiting for that common sense ruling.
