On his return flight to Rome from a trip to Turkey, where he prayed in a Muslim mosque, Pope Francis told reporters that Islam is a religion of peace and it is wrong for people to be “enraged” against Islam because of terrorism (“Pope Francis: Don’t equate Islam with Violence,” UPI, Nov. 30, 2014). He said, “The Koran is a book of peace. It is a prophetic book of peace.” He told Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan “that it would be beautiful if all Islamic leaders, whether they are political, religious or academic leaders, would speak out clearly and condemn this because this would help the majority of Muslim people.” It appears that the pope has never read the Koran or studied the history of Islam. Like President Obama, he is living in Never, Never Land (an imaginary place of escapism).
